Being An Involved Parent

Enrolling your child in Little Giggles home-based childcare

We’ll meet with you to find out all about your child and your care needs, and then your visiting teacher will take you to meet educators who they think would be a great fit for you. You can talk with the educators about what hours you’d like your child to be at Little Giggles.

Once you’ve chosen your educator, we’ll give you lots of information about how to help your child make a smooth transition from home to Little Giggles care, become familiar with the new environment, and start to build relationships with your educator and the other children. We’ll also let you know what to bring each day and give you information about the policies and procedures that guide us at Little Giggles In-Home Childcare.

Our Little Giggles educators provide childcare in their own homes for children from birth to five years. With one educator and no more than three other children, your child will be able to form secure relationships and get individual attention. Your educator will adapt each day’s activities to your child’s interests and what they enjoy doing.

Input from a visiting teacher

Each educator is supported by a Little Giggles visiting teacher who is a qualified and registered early childhood teacher. They visit your educator and child regularly and work with them to extend your child’s learning, using Te Whāriki, the early childhood education curriculum. You can find out more about Te Whāriki, on the Ministry of Education’s website.

Be involved in your child’s learning

Your child’s activities and progress will be recorded in their own journal. Not only can you see what they’ve been doing and how they’re developing, it’s also a great vestige of their early years. We welcome you adding comments, stories and photos to their learning journal – we know that learning happens through family experiences and at home too.

Keeping in touch

You’re welcome to drop in and spend time with your educator, and it’s great to have a conversation with them at the start or end of the day about your child’s progress and well-being. Your visiting teacher will also talk with you regularly and you can contact them at any time. We have educators across Auckland.

Choosing an educator

The choice of educator is yours. To make sure you get the educator who’s right for you and your child, we’ll talk with you to understand what you’re looking for from childcare and take you to meet the educators we think will be a good fit for you.

Carefully selected educators

Most of our educators are parents themselves, and they’re all passionate about nurturing children and growing their imaginations. We check they’re able to provide a safe and child-friendly home environment, and we carry out police and background checks.

Educator training

All our educators do first aid course and follow the guidelines of the early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki. Educator then has ongoing professional development to learn more about topics like positive guidance and learning through play.
